Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Public Schools on 2-hour delay Tuesday

Watauga County and Avery County school officials announced their districts will operate on a two-hour delay for the rest of the week due to the single digit temperatures and sub-zero wind chills.

Horry County Schools will be closed on Wednesday, Jan. 3 due to incoming winter weather. The remaining buses were taken out of service for repairs.

ECP Early College students will not report back to school until January 3, the official said.

"This delay is to ensure that all systems, including heat, water, and technology are operational in all school facilities before students return from the holiday break", school district officials said in a news release.

School districts have already delayed school for some areas across the Piedmont Triad. "We don't want students to have to wait outside in the extreme a long time on buses that might be late because of mechanical problems".

Classes were delayed at multiple districts Tuesday morning because of concerns that buses would have trouble running in the freezing temperatures.
