Paulinho another injury worry for Ernesto Valverde

Marca have this afternoon provided an update on the fitness of Barcelona midfielder Paulinho, after the Brazilian picked up an injury during the Blaugrana's 1-0 Copa Del Rey loss to Espanyol last night.

In the other quarter-final ties, Diego Costa scored his third goal in four games during Atletico Madrid's 2-1 defeat at home by Sevilla.

Espanyol now travel to the Camp Nou for next Thursday's second leg having won and deprived Barca of a vital away goal.

Lionel Messi saw a penalty saved just after the hour mark and created a decent amount of chances in a game they dominated.

"We won't overdramatise. People start to talk about how some players have an issue and in the end people start believing it".

Barcelona hadn't lost since a 2-0 defeat by Real Madrid in the second leg of the Spanish Super Cup on Aug 16.

Ahead of the clash Barca boss Ernesto Valverde said: "I see Espanyol in great form and their stats confirm that after recent results in the league and after coming back in the last round of the Copa against Levante". It was quite a unsafe place to play because they could counter any little imprecision we made. The good thing is we have the second leg to try and turn things around. It was tough but we had it under control.

"The penalty save gave them courage".

"But we weren't efficient in the final third and then, after the missed penalty, the crowd reacted and came alive".

But Valverde tried to play down the concerns of the fans after pointing out that that the new blow is much less serious than the previous one.
