Sears adds 103 stores to closure list

The Bangor Daily News reports Sears Holdings announced Thursday it's closing its location in the Bangor Mall in April.

Sears has announced it will close its store in Bangor, Maine. Liquidation sales in affected stores will begin this month. All 103 local Sears and Kmarts, including the Ocala and Bellview locations, will shutter by May. There were 3,510 six years ago, according to BI.

Sears Holdings is the parent company of both Sears and Kmart retail stores.

But the Bellingham and Burlington Macy's stores and the Bellingham Kmart are safe for now.

Sears Holdings closed almost 400 Sears and Kmart locations in 2017, according to Business Insider.

The struggling chain said they aim to transform their business model so the physical store footprint and our digital capabilities "match the needs and preferences of our members".

Sears is the Berkshire Mall's only original anchor store, having opened with the mall in 1970.
