Spurs Reportedly Tried 'Really Hard' to Acquire Kyrie Irving

In an extensive interview with ESPN, details came to light that Cleveland attempted to trade Irving mid-June prior to the Cavaliers point guard's trade request.

After last night's loss 102-88 loss to Boston Celtics, the Cavs are in a skid of sorts, having dropped five of their last seven games. Irving and Channing Frye would've gone to Phoenix. James, team and league sources confirm, wouldn't commit.

"I'm always concerned about other teams getting better and better", James said after Wednesday's loss. So until we get a full dosage of IT and get our rotations down and things of that nature, we're playing well and Tristan comes back, we're integrating him, and we haven't played as well as of late, so we're trying to figure that out. The Cavaliers shipped Irving to the Celtics [VIDEO] for Isaiah Thomas, Jae Crowder, Ante Zizic, the Brooklyn Nets' 2018 first-round pick and a 2020 second-round pick.

There haven't been any reports to support Irving's belief that James' camp tried to orchestrate a deal. Trading for Irving would have given it someone to carry the offensive load while they were working their way back and a proven clutch performer who already has a championship ring for the stretch run and playoffs. The talks fell apart when Griffin left the team shortly afterward.

Entering this game, Irving is averaging a career-high 24.8 points, while James is also putting out career-bests 27.7 points, 9.2 assists and 8.1 rebounds per game, while playing nearly 31 minutes a game.

To be clear, Cleveland most certainly did not view the Celtics as much of a threat last season, even though Boston captured the No. 1 seed. He didn't suit up for Cleveland's visit to Boston Wednesday.
