Edson Barboza is one of the most thrilling strikers on the rosters.
"That was my most dominant performance to date", the 29-year-old Dagestan native said afterwards.
And while Justino's win was one that will no doubt truly establish her as a force on the pound-for-pound rankings, it was the performance of Khabib Nurmagomedov in the co-main event that had everybody talking after the action was done and dusted on the night. He come to lightweight and fight one time, and he's real champ...this is a little bit insane I think. The absentee UFC champion has since shown little interest in returning to the octagon. "I don't think about those two bullsh-t guys", Nurmagomedov said in response to his thoughts on UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor and UFC Interim Lightweight Champion Tony Ferguson. I think a lot of people can beat him at 155.
Nurmagomedov's health has been far from a given, though.
While Khabib's line may sound a bit like bluster, it's worth noting that the former World Sambo champion does have previous experience of taking on multiple opponents on the same night, as he captured the 2008 Pankration Atrium Cup after recording three victories in one night before a year later defeating both Said Akhmed and Eldar Eldarov at the Tsumada Fighting Championship 3 in Agvali, Russia. He'd later say he's more likely to fight Ferguson because of the amount of money McGregor made in his boxing match with Floyd Mayweather. He had also previously missed weight, to the ire of UFC President Dana White.
"I've never had problems making weight". "My problem, and my No. 1 enemy, is injuries". I'm not training like other UFC fighters.
"I don't know what [McGregor] thinks [now], if he watched or didn't watch. He has to come back to fight". He was visibly annoyed all week about questions about his weight, since he had issues during his weight cut for a planned bout against Ferguson in March at UFC 209 that had to be canceled when he was taken to the hospital. Ferguson has agreed to fight Nurmagomedov so many times in the past that there's no way he's too intimidated to agree to another fight. So in terms of actually possible goals, Nurmagomedov offered a detailed plan about how he's going to make up for time lost. Someone like McGregor could be reasonably hesitant to fight Nurmagomedov given his suffocating style and track record. Will he actually be healthy enough to fight either one of them? Of course, in the main event it was the Brazilian featherweight champion Cristiane "Cyborg" Justino who successfully defended her belt against the spirited, but ultimately unsuccessful, Holly Holm. Undefeated boxer Gennady Golovkin is another recent example.
