Trump lawyer arranged $130000 payment to keep adult-film star quiet

A lawyer for the president, Michael Cohen, reportedly arranged a $130,000 payment to prevent an adult film star from talking during the election about an alleged consensual sexual encounter she had with Donald Trump in 2006, the Wall Street Journal reported on Friday.

The Wall Street Journal reported that Michael Cohen, an attorney for the Trump Organization at the time and now Trump's personal lawyer, arranged for Stephanie Clifford, known in the industry as Stormy Daniels, to receive $130,000 as part of a nondisclosure agreement one month before the 2016 presidential election.

Letter from Stormy Daniels, aka Stephanie Clifford, denying allegations of any sexual encounter with Donald Trump.

However, the official said allegations of a relationship between Trump and Clifford are "old, recycled reports, which were published and strongly denied prior to the election".

Mr. Cohen also sent the newspaper a document signed by Clifford/Daniels that stated the affair gossip is untrue and any report which claims she received hush money is "completely false".

Clifford would have addressed her relationship with Trump in connection with a report about the National Enquirer paying a former Playboy Playmate $150,000 for her story on an alleged affair she had with Trump.

The Smoking Gun notes that a blog called The Dirty published rumors in 2011 that Trump cheated on Melania Trump while she was pregnant. "I am stating with complete clarity that this is absolutely false", she wrote.

The Wall Street Journal had previously reported that Clifford was in talks with Good Morning America to talk about Trump just before the November 8, 2016 election. "My involvement with Donald Trump was limited to a few public appearances and nothing more". "If indeed I did have a relationship with Donald Trump, trust me, you wouldn't be reading about it in the news, you would be reading about it in my book". According to NBC San Diego, Clifford allegedly hit her husband multiple times after getting upset over unpaid bills. "But the fact of the matter is, these stories are not true".

Clifford and her lawyer did not comment. She was arrested July 25, 2009, on a misdemeanor charge of domestic violence battery that was later dropped. In 2010, the 38-year-old publicly announced that she was joining the Republican party, according to the Huffington Post. In a 2016 news conference, adult-film star Jessica Drake claimed that Trump kissed her and two other women without their consent at the same golf event that same year.
