Alcatel unveils a slew of new devices with 18:9 aspect ratios

Alcatel Revamps Its Smartphones with Supersized Screens

Alcatel wants to bring iPad-like features at an insanely low cost

On the specifications front, the Alcatel 1X offers a 5.3-inch display, quad-core processor, 1GB/2GB RAM, 16GB expandable internal storage, 13MP/8MP rear camera coupled with a 5MP front camera. The 1X runs a version of Android Oreo created to bring premium features to low-priced devices. The phone features a MediaTek MT8735A quad-core SoC with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage.

For those who don't know Alcatel, it's a company known for releasing very cheap but passable smartphones, but in recent years, it's been trying to make them more appealing.

You might even be disappointed to find out that the Alcatel 5 only has one camera on its back, though it's a serviceable 13 megapixel f/2.0 PDAF shooter. The new tablets, dubbed the Alcatel 1T 10 and Alcatel 1T 7, run Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box and come with a proprietary Kids mode.

For starters, the screen isn't full HD, being just 1400 x 720, coming in at 5.7-inches, it also has an octa-core MediaTek MT6750 CPU mated to 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage. It includes facial recognition, a fingerprint sensor, the social photography features in the higher-end Alcatel 5 and, most importantly, one of the few 18:9 screens in a phone this price. The 3V is €190, the 3X is €180 and the entry-level model 3 is €150.The 3V has a rear-facing dual-lens camera system and costs less than the 5 series model. The main highlight of the Alcatel 5 is the integration of face unlocking mechanism paired with dual front camera sensors. The standard Alcatel 3 features a 5.5-inch 1440×720 pixel display with an 18:9 aspect ratio. The fingerprint sensor is placed at the back of the device. It runs Android Oreo out-of-the-box. Alcatel 3V comes with a larger 6-inch 2K (2160 X 1080 pixels) IPS display with 18:9 aspect ratio. It also includes Google Assistant for Android Go.

Every Alcatel 3 Series device features a 3,000mAh battery.

When Alcatel first announced its 5, 3v and 1x series of smartphones at CES 2018, the company left out vital information related to each series of device's specific technical specifications. There's 16GB of built-in storage and a microSD card slot if you need more storage, a 2,460mAh battery powering the whole package, and a fingerprint sensor on select models. Again, what gives? Pricing is €100 for the single SIM version and €110 for the dual one - about $123 and $135, respectively. Connectivity options include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, FM Radio, and MicroUSB 2.0 port.
