Apple's TV app adds live news from CBS, CNN and others

Apple TV app update

Apps & Software

Live news broadcasts have come to Apple's TV app. You'll even be able to control the content with your voice using Siri on the Apple TV by saying things like "Play Fox News".

Apple's TV app got an upgrade this week as a dedicated section for live news has been added to the front page.

The News section in the TV application is accessible under the main "Watch Now" header. We've asked if this will be available outside of the U.S. - since NBC only holds the rights to coverage in that country - and we're also asking which other partners are involved. It will also include a planner for people to figure out what is showing when, and let you add events you want to watch to your calendar. The section will also provide link to live streams and replays found in the NBC Sports app. If you don't have the individual apps it will prompt you to download them from the App Store and once they are setup the TV app will allow for single sign-on into any of them. There will be a medal tracker and morning roundups so you can easily catch up with what you've missed overnight.

It is not clear why Apple has chosen to put its Olympics coverage in "For You". This eliminates the annoying part of ditching cable in that you don't have to use a generic universal search tool or manually sort through various provider apps.
