Huawei just launched the P20 series phones and the smartphone fans are most interested in the more powerful P20 Pro that we covered a few moments ago.
The moment I first held the Mate RS in my hand, it reminded me of the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S9.
Both Huawei handsets use artificial intelligence (AI) built in to the phone's Kirin 970 chipset that detects an array of scenes and new AI stabilisation technology. The P20 Malaysian roadshow details are finally out and you can get extra freebies and a chance to get their top of the line P20 Pro for free.
What is the new Porsche Design model?
The phablet-sized device houses a bright, 6.1-inch FullView OLED display that fills the majority of the front panel.
With competitive pricing and ambitious plans to become the world's leading smartphone brand, one industry-watcher has suggested that rivals should take note.
The bottom of the device features a glorious - and now increasinly rare - 3.5mm jack next to a USB-C port for charging.
The highly reflective and polished rear panel also looks good - particularly in the blue and two-tone Twilight finish, even if it is hard to hide fingerprints and smears.
The centrepiece of the P20 Pro is naturally its trio of rear cameras. The NPU is designed for AI-based functions of the camera. Additionally the P20 and P20 Pro include support for six-axis stabilization and 960fps super-slow-motion video capability.
As far as hardware goes, it's what you'd expect from a budget device - Snapdragon 430 backed with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of expandable storage. Huawei unveiled the P20 and P20 Pro at an event in Paris on March 27, and the phones come with a focus on camera and AI-driven features. The smartphone also gets IP67 certification for water and dust resistance. On the front, there's a 24-megapixel camera with a wide, f/2.0 aperture. With a starting price of Rs 136,250, which is more than the top variant of the iPhone X, the smartphone is for those who seek luxury, and have enough money to splurge.
The P9 and Nexus 69, which were the last Huawei phones to launch in India, were available exclusively via Flipkart, which makes it likely that Huawei will sell its P20 and P20 Pro smartphones via the same e-commerce partner. Does this mean the designers of the two companies simply can not come up with a new form factor for their phones, or is it an acknowledgment of Apple's leadership in phone design?
