Thursday's winners losers at the 2018 NFL Scouting Combine

The 2018 version of the NFL Combine is in high gear.

In all, seven defensive backs were clocked under 4.4 in the 40, including cornerback Avonte Maddox, who played for new Dolphins assistant DB coach Renaldo Hill at Pitt.

While nothing definitive came out of the Scouting Combine, there were plenty of takeaways from the event.

It continues when Ward takes the field Monday, no longer resigned to the Cotton Bowl sideline and ready to again battle for prospect supremacy. Kayvon Webster is recovering from an Achilles injury, Nickell Robey-Coleman is a free agent and the team's depth isn't exactly strong. A late invite to the Combine, Griffin turned it on its head when he ran the 40 in 4.38 seconds at 6-foot-1 and 227 pounds.

Defensive backs are the last group to finish out the drills. Eisen came in at 5.97 seconds, the second time in the 13 times he's run the 40 at the combine that he came in under 6 seconds. But with strong performances in the 40-yard dash (4.58), vertical and broad jumps, three-cone drill and 20-yard shuttle, Davenport made a strong case for his athleticism.

The foundation of draft commodity dates back Jimmy Johnson draft values, but the concept of "draft points" is based on Chase Stewart's model from 2012 which assigned point value to each draft pick using a more analytical approach.

The Giants follow the Browns and take their potential franchise quarterback in Josh Rosen.

I don't think anyone expected Barrett to light it up at the combine, but he needed a favorable showing to improve his draft stock. "And you want to see how they're able to echo and articulate what their role, what their responsibility is within the framework of that individual play".

Remember, Ole Miss tackle Laremy Tunsil elected not to do measurable drills at the 2016 combine (he did go through position drills).

NFL.com believes kicker Michael Badgley has a "better-than-average chance to make an NFL roster", while offensive guards Kc McDermott and Trevor Darling (not invited to the combine) and cornerback Dee Delaney are viewed as players who "should be in an NFL training camp". Mel Kiper suggested he might even rise into the 2010 draft's first round. "He's a draftable player but this is a good linebacker class, so I see him as a mid-to-late Day 3 kind of guy".

Barkley impressed at the NFL Combine this weekend.

Norton (5.56) lifted 225 pounds 30 times in the bench press drill, seventh-best among all defensive linemen. A solid - if not spectacular - time from one of the best prospects in the Big Sky in 2018. He also just might be the most accurate quarterback in this draft, both in the pocket and on the move.
