Production begins for Captain Marvel

Captain Marvel is scheduled for release on 8 March 2019 and also stars Jude Law as classic comic book character and the original Captain Marvel, Mar-Vell.

After his character appeared to die in that film, Gregg continued in the role for spin-off TV series Agents of SHIELD (where Coulson was revealed to have survived), but he has not appeared in any of Marvel's cinema offerings for the last six years.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe will be whole once again in 2019 when Agent Coulson returns for Captain Marvel. While speaking to Screen Crush during the promotion of her new film A Quiet Place, Blunt was asked about how far in the Captain Marvel process she got. But, he was later resurrected to lead the television adaptation of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.S. on ABC.

Los Angeles will serve as the film's primary production home, but it will also shoot in Fresno, California and Louisiana. In 2014's Guardians of the Galaxy, Pace played the main villain, the Kree religious zealot Ronan, while Hounsou played his mercenary underling Korath the Pursuer. Brie Larson plays the title role of Carol Danvers.

The information also offers that Djimon Hounsou returns as Korath, having first appeared in Guardians of the Galaxy as well.

We already knew that Captain Marvel would be a '90s flick, including in its hairstyles and its action-movie homages, and that Carol Danvers would become involved in the Kree-Skrull war, so we can safely assume that's what the "galactic war between two alien races" refers to. Captain Marvel may be coming at the tail end of Marvel's three-phase epic and what producer Kevin Feige has claimed is the end of this iteration of the MCU, but the film's setting and use of characters - including those now dead and those now operating in the world of television - may point to the future of Marvel movies.

The film starring Oscar victor Brie Larson in the lead role of Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel already landed several major co-stars including Jude Law as Mar-Vell, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Ben Mendelsohn in a new role.

Captain Marvel opens next March, one month before Shazam!

Marvel's Kevin Feige is producing Captain Marvel, which boasts a script by three talented women - Geneva Robertson-Dworet, Meg LeFauve and Nicole Perlman.
