At the same time, Kimmel told ABC News that, "This show is not about reliving people's sexual assaults - it's an awards show for people who have been dreaming about maybe winning an Oscar for their whole lives".

While there is no official repeat planned, some actresses have indicated they will again wear black in support of #MeToo on Sunday.

What's in store for this year? The first Oscar of the night was awarded in the Best Supporting Actor category to Sam Rockwell for "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri".

The concentrated focus on the popular categories often takes the spotlight away from categories where an award not only makes a big difference to the way films are perceived, but also the impact it has on future generations.

The 90th Oscars take place on Sunday, with The Shape of Water and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri expected to do battle for the main prizes.
