Woods commits to two tournaments in Masters build-up

Woods, who had spinal-fusion surgery 10 months ago, has been erratic off the tee but has displayed solid scrambling skills to record two top-25 finishes and reach 389th in the world.

However as Woods has not qualified for this current week's WGC - Mexico Championship or the March 15th WGC - Dell Technology Match-Play Championship in Austin, Texas it has limited where he can play hence entering the Valspar. While he will make his Valspar debut, he did play the Innisbrook course in a team event in 1996.

Both events are near his home in Florida with the Valspar taking place at Innisbrook in Palm Harbor and the Arnold Palmer, which Woods has won eight times, being hosted at Bay Hill in Orlando.

Next week, Tiger will reunite with Rory McIlroy, who, after two rounds with the fan magnet at Riviera, probably hopes he'll once again have a quiet start to the tourney by being "on the opposite end of the draw" from Woods, as he was at the Honda Classic.

Chamblee said impressive outings would offer a timely pre-Masters boost for the former champion but added that he saw everything he needed to see from Woods at the Honda Classic to know he could be a contender at Augusta National.

"I feel like I've really hit the ball well", Woods said after the Honda Classic. Since he never plays the week before the Masters, that left the Valspar as a viable option.

"I missed the golf ball in the correct spots and I had control of my ball". "Keep building my body, keep building towards April. I told you guys at Torrey, try and get everything situated for April and I feel like I'm right on track for that". The Arnold Palmer Invitational will feature an exceptional field as it does every year. He ranked first in the field when it came to proximity to the hole.
