Kollam Ajith acted mostly in villain roles in Malayalam movies of the 1990s

Malayalam actor Kollam Ajith passed away on Thursday morning.

Born as Ajith Kumar, the actor used Kollam as a suffix to his name as he was brought up in Kollam.

According to reports, the body will be taken to his native place and the funeral will take place today itself.

In a career spanning over three decades, the actor has worked in over 500 films including Tamil and Hindi and Nadodikkattu, No.20 Madras Mail, Yuvajanotsavam, Nirnayam, Aaraam Thampuran are among the most popular ones.

Ajith was often referred as Malayalam film industry's "permanent villain" on account of his role in the hugely successful 1987 film Irupathaam Noottaandu starring Mohanlal. Ajith was 56 years old and he is survived by wife Prameela and children Gayathri and Srihari. He has worked with some of the top stars - From Mohanlal to Mammootty, he has acted in several projects alongside them. Sharing a picture of Kollam, the actor took to Twitter to pay his last respects.
