School districts throughout the state have closed, including in large cities such as Tulsa and Oklahoma City, KFOR reports.

Many teachers go the extra mile for students. "The new teacher activism - born in West Virginia and spreading to Oklahoma, Kentucky and Arizona - is not a flash in the pan".

For the past week, they marched with agonizing blisters and slept on gymnasium floors on their way to confront lawmakers.

Oklahoma City Public Schools is providing meals to its students at no cost to them throughout the walkout with buses dropping off the sack lunches at various locations, reported CNN affiliate KFOR.
