A pregnant Pakistani singer was shot dead in a festive ceremony in Larkana of Sindh province because she refused to stand while she was singing. She was eight months along.

The accused, who was allegedly intoxicated, had badgered the victim to comply before he shot her dead.

This shocking incident was registered by her husband and police have arrested two accused and his accomplices. A drunken guest reportedly chose to end her life after she initially refused to stand and dance while she sang.

While she did choose to stand up, she refused to dance on stage in front of the packed audience, following which she was shot at. The weapon used to murder the singer was recovered, Geo TV quoted the DIG as saying.

Sources said the deceased belonged to a poor family, which could be coerced into withdrawing the case.

Twenty-four-year-old Samina Samoon, also known as Samina Sindhu, was performing in Kanga village for an event when a man, identified as Tarique Ahmed Jatoi, asked her to stand while singing.

Further, Sindh Home Minister Suhail Anwar Siyal, on Wednesday morning, took notice of the firing incident and advised Tanvir Hussain Tunio, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) for Larkana, to submit a report in this regard.
