Trump vows quick action in response to suspected chemical attack in Syria

Russian Federation said two Israeli F-15 jets launched eight guided rockets from Lebanese airspace, targeting T4 air base in Homs before Syrian air defenses managed to shoot down several of the rockets.

Interfax cited the Russian Defence Ministry as saying the Israeli war planes had carried out the strikes from Lebanese air space, and that Syrian air defence systems had shot down five of eight missiles fired.

The OPCW, in its statement, said its technical Secretariat has asked the Syrian government to make the necessary arrangements for the deployment of a fact-finding mission.

At the time of the weekend attack in Douma, Syrian government forces and their allies were in the midst of clearing the last pocket of rebel resistance in the eastern Ghouta region, where the town is located.

Syrian state TV initially said the United States was suspected of carrying out the attack on T-4.

Syria's White Helmets, who act as first responders in rebel-held areas of Syria, said the Douma attack took place late on Saturday using "poisonous chlorine gas".

The Pentagon said it wasn't conducting airstrikes, with a spokesman saying that "we continue to closely watch the situation".

SANA said the missile attack resulted in a number of casualties, but provided no specific figures.

AP quoted SANA saying it was "likely to be an American aggression" though US officials told the organization no American military action had been taken.

The preparations follow a pattern of evacuations around the capital, Damascus, and other major Syrian cities as the government reasserts its control after seven years of war.

The base, which was used as a launching pad for attacks against Islamic State militants who were at one point stationed nearby, is near the Shayrat air base, which was targeted by USA missiles previous year in response to a chemical weapons attack.

Israel sent fighter jets into Syria to down an Iranian drone that took off from there in February.

It was not initially clear who carried out the attack after both the US and France denied that they were responsible for the attack.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said the strike on the T-4 base was a unsafe development.

United Nations war crimes investigators had previously documented 33 chemical attacks in Syria, attributing 27 to the Assad government, which has repeatedly denied using the weapons.

He even included Vladimir Putin, the Russian president in his rage against the chemical attacks on the civilians in Syria. "President Obama said in 2012 that he would establish a "red line" against the use of chemical weapons and then did nothing".

More than 100 buses entered the town Sunday night to transport fighters and their families to Jarablus, a town under the shared control of rebels and Turkey, said Syrian state-affiliated al-Ikhbariya TV.

However Trump laid the blame firmly at the feet of Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad and his chief backers, echoing similar statements from the European Union and Turkey.
