"Infinity War was the culmination of 10 years of developing the universe and characters that people care about".

Walt Disney Co.'s "Avengers: Infinity War" kicked off the summer movie season with the second-biggest domestic debut in history. An estimated $250 million of that was collected in USA and Canadian theaters, beating independent forecasts of about $230 million. The report also stated that globally, Infinity War could overshadow The Fate of the Furious ($541.9 million) to "land the biggest box-office launch of all time".

"Infinity War" cost $300 million to make, according to Bloomberg Intelligence, and many tens of millions more to market. The film that took the biggest fall was Warner Bros. and Dwayne Johnson's "Rampage", dropping 65 percent to $7.1 million in its third weekend for a $77.9 million total.

The New Yorker movie reviewer Richard Brody wasn't a big fan of Infinity War, with one of his biggest grievances being that it relied too much on the groundwork set in the movies that came before it.

Disney reckons that the opening weekend figures will eventually amount to something like $225 - 240 million, which will put it higher that Star Wars' latest offering, The Last Jedi. That being said, it's not exactly the feel-good movie of the year, and while there's plenty of banter and set pieces, the conclusion is kind of a bummer as opposed to something like Black Panther, which thrived on being a fun, uplifting picture.

Disney figured it'd land somewhere in the $220-240M mark, just behind JJ Abrams' 2015 film, but Disney also has a habit of being very conservative when it comes to box office estimates; giving a film that wiggle room comes in handy if something happens to underperform.

Obviously Infinity War had the best-selling superhero movie debut, topping The Avengers (25.5 million) with number of tickets sold.

Comebacks include Robert Downey Jr as Iron Man, Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, and Chris Hemsworth as Thor.

Avengers: Infinity War brings toger Marvel's superheroes in a battle of epic proportions against Thanos (played by Josh Brolin), greatest enemy y have faced, a villain whose goal is to gar six Infinity gems to annihilate Half of humanity.
