Decisive UFC 224 loss marks end of Vitor Belfort's rocky UFC career

UFC 224 Play-By-Play: Lyoto Machida Front Kick KO's Vitor Belfort

Vitor Belfort retires after being knocked out by Lyoto Machida at UFC 224

Sure, both men are well and truly past their respective primes at this stage but with the meeting of such iconic figures comes an expectation that the resulting bout will deliver something that lives up to the heights these guys have reached.

Apparently, Brazilian legend Vitor Belfort will retire without ever having learned the defense against the front kick.

Belfort was out before he hit the deck.

That fight sent Couture into retirement, minus a tooth. In my opinion the first round definitely goes to Lyoto Machida for activity and landing the hook kick. He called out former middleweight champion Michael Bisping, who has been flirting with the idea of retirement himself, following a knockout loss last November. I want this fight.

Belfort fought the likes of Couture, Wanderlei Silva, Chuck Liddell, Tito Ortiz, Anderson Silva and Jon Jones during his career. It's another fight that could have happened and did not.

UFC 113, which took place at Bell Centre in Montreal, was headlined by the light-heavyweight title rematch between Lyoto Machida and Shogun Rua, featured a title eliminator bout between Josh Koscheck and Paul Daley in the co-main and included the second UFC appearance of Internet sensation Kimbo Slice.

If you want to tell me that you'd pick anything other than UFC 224 if given a choice of those three fight cards this weekend, I'm going to need a thousand words explaining your logic because it doesn't make sense to me. He confirmed this in his Octagon interview.

"First of all, congratulations to Machida's team, they fought pretty well", he said.

"Live is about beginning, middle and end", he said.

Mackenzie Dern won against Amanda Cooper but the real drama had come at the weigh in, where Dern missed the 116lbs straweight limit for a non-title fight by a massive half a stone!
