New Arsenal head coach Unai Emery believes he already has the players at his disposal to challenge for major honours.

But Emery has proven himself both in domestic soccer and in Europe, winning league titles at Paris Saint-Germain and the Europa League at Sevilla.

Arsenal failed to qualify for the Champions League in 2017 and won't feature in the 2018-19 competition having previously been in every year since 1998.

And Emery has revealed how he wants his new stars to play under his stewardship.

"It's a big challenge but I've worked also with other big projects and for me I am proud to be here and to work after Arsene Wenger", he told reporters.

"I want to speak individually with all the players face to face".

"It's very important to the club after being out of the Champions League for two years".

Emery won the Ligue 1 title, the French Cup and the League Cup this past season in Paris. "For me, I am proud to be here and to work after Arsene Wenger". "For me this challenge is a dream come true".

According to a report from the Daily Mail, Arsenal are lining up a £35 million summer swoop for Nice ace Jean Michaël Seri, as Unai Emery looks to make his first signing at the Emirates.

Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis said Emery had emerged as the strongest candidate after a "wide-ranging and rigorous search" for Wenger's replacement.

That trio are the new power-brokers at Arsenal and Emery was quick to praise his employers.

The three-man search committee of Gazidis, recruitment head Sven Mislintat and director of football relations Raul Sanllehi then made a "unanimous" recommendation to the board last Friday, he said.

I want to say thank you Arsene Wenger for your legacy.

Wenger won the double in his first full season with Arsenal in 1997-98 - an achievement that might be beyond Emery given the rebuilding job facing him. "I don't think anybody thinks finishing sixth, for a club the size of Arsenal, is acceptable", Gazidis said.

"I know all the players. We had very good meetings on Monday and I have a very good feeling that we will work together".

"We will transmit our emotion and we will fight for the objectives".

Many cite his obsessive attention to detail as a reason he will fail in the Premier League, with anecdotes emerging of the Spaniard giving his players USB sticks full of tactical analysis to watch throughout his time with Valencia.

Emery, a three-time Europa League victor with Sevilla, called on Ozil to commit to the cause, saying: "He's one of the biggest talents here and I want talented players here".

"Arsenal is known and loved throughout the world for its style of play, its commitment to young players, the fantastic stadium, the way the club is run".

A common goal with his new employers was a theme Emery returned to throughout his maiden media briefing as Arsenal boss.

"I'm thinking about the present and the future".
