Local and state police responded to reports of an active shooter at Noblesville West Middle School just after 9 a.m. Friday, Chief of Police Kevin Jowitt told reporters at a news conference.

Vice President Mike Pence, who is from IN, tweeted yesterday that he and his wife were "praying for the victims of the awful shooting".

Seaman, who is also a football coach at the school, was shot in the stomach, hip and arm.

A former Southern Illinois University at Carbondale football player who is now a teacher at a Noblesville, Indiana Middle School is being hailed as a hero after tackling a school shooter.

According to WISH, Seaman was taken to IU Health Methodist Hospital in critical condition.

A science teacher at an IN middle school saved lives when he threw a basketball at a student who opened fire IN his classroom, a witness said. "His quick and automatic action is begin talking about all over the word!" He told ABC News that Seaman threw a basketball at the shooter and ran toward the bullets as screaming students sought cover behind a table.

"It's just a shock he would do something like that", Stonebraker said.

"[The gunman] took about four to five maybe six shots, one of them hitting a girl that was about 10 feet from me", a student who asked not to be identified told CBS4 in Indianapolis. She's an 8th grader and one of the 1,400 terrified students in the middle school.

"I have no words because it was such an unbelievable act of caring", she said.

The alleged shooter had asked to be dismissed from the class before returning with the guns. You are too young.

Seamans' mother is also sharing her son's condition on her social media. He said his girlfriend's sister was in a classroom adjacent to the shooting.

"She kept saying, 'I saw my teacher get shot, '" Lovall said.

No other details were immediately available.

"Our thoughts are with all those affected by this frightful situation", Holcomb said.

Noblesville is around 20 miles northeast of Indianapolis, and is populated by 50,000 people.

This is the 17th school shooting this year and fourth of the month.

At least two people have been injured in a school shooting in Indiana.
