Smart Compose builds off the same email scanning methods that Gmail has long employed to weed out spam and phishing attempts (Google stopped using its scans to aid ad targeting last year).

While Google did talk about its core services, the company also used I/O 2018 as an opportunity to talk about Waymo. This feature will automatically apply a selective black and white filter to parts of a picture in order to highlight the colors in specific objects or people. "We can recreate that moment in color and make the moment even more real", Pichai said.

Google will sent sending gentle "nudges" to consumers if an email goes unanswered for several days, with a message that reads something like, "Received 3 days ago".

From your greeting to your closing (and common phrases in between), Smart Compose suggests complete sentences in your emails so that you can draft them easily.

For example, "I haven't seen you" might be autocompleted to "I haven't seen you in a while and I hope you're doing well". To accept a suggestion, press Tab.

Take Gmail, which just saw a redesign that introduced a new look to the desktop version of Google's mail client.

Pichai also demoed the Photos app converting a digital image of dog adoption document into a PDF, much to the delight of the crowd.

Later this summer, Google will also let you schedule Routines for a specific day or time using the Google Assistant or the Google Clock app for Android. G Suite customers will get Smart Compose in the coming months. Graphics suggest the sounds are meant to mimic a sitar, guitar, a piano and something called a "resopad".

Google's biggest event towards developers kicked off on 8th May at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California right next to Googleplex and will conclude on 10th May. Hence, Google has introduced a new feature called "Continued Conversation" that eliminates the need of having to say the hotword while following up a query. It also has certain privacy-based aspects like a simplified risk warning, an easier way to unsubscribe from spam newsletters, and a new Confidential mode.
