Smart Displays are a new category of devices built for the home that let you quickly glance at responses provided by the Google Assistant. Aside from the astonishing, albeit creepy, phone-exchange demo, Google didn't offer much detail. Pichai demoed Duplex on stage and played a few recorded phone calls of the technology in action.
In a bid to deliver transparency in technology and stay ahead of ethical pitfalls, Google has said that its Artificial Intelligence (AI) calling system "Duplex" would now identify itself while making appointments.
According to Google, Duplex is still under heavy development and will not be made available for public use just yet. Furthermore, in what looks to be an effort to distance itself from the ever increasing questions over the bankruptcy of ethics and morality in Silicon Valley, the tech giant is also promising to make its voice assistant more responsible than ever. In both calls, the computerized voices occasionally dropped some "umms" and "mm-hmms" in the script to appear more life-like. It even says things like "mmm" to suggest it's thinking. In recent years, we have witnessed a revolution in the ability of computers to understand and to generate natural speech, especially with the application of deep neural networks (e.g., Google voice search, WaveNet). Essentially, Google is changing the way Android is navigated and how users interact with their phones. Now Wear OS is simply the revamp of Android Wear.
As of now, LG's ThinQ AI enabled TVs will be able to work with other Google Assistant devices in the USA, U.K., Canada and Australia, and Google is expected to announce further markets expansion later this year. Similar concerns are like, setting up of wrong time of appointment and if the cancellation charges apply for an appointment, then who is to be held accountable for that. App Time Limits is meant to reduce the overall amount of time peoples pend staring at their phones.
To download Android P beta, users have to sign up to be a part of the Android Beta Program.
Google is working on its own line of next generation smartwatches in conjunction with Qualcomm.
LG first announced this capability at CES 2018 a couple of months back, when it demonstrated one of its TV model accepting commands over the remote control's built-in microphone and also responding back in Google Assistant's voice. Google has also implemented some battery-saving functions in the hopes of providing better battery life.
