Last year's food drive resulted in over 71 million pounds of food collected by Postal Service carriers nationally, feeding an estimated 30 million people.

More than 71 million pounds were collected around the country-from more than 10,000 cities and towns in all 50 states and USA territories.

It was the annual stamp out hunger food drive, where mail carriers collect food along their postal routes. Local area food banks are trying to cut those numbers down but they can't do it alone.

Volunteers with the SCV Food Pantry collect donations for the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive? Over the past quarter century, the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive has collected well over one billion pounds of food.

One of the biggest food drives outside of Rotary Lights is happening this weekend.

Schenkelberg says food pantries see dwindling supplies in the springtime, but each year Green Bay's generosity seems to grow.

Jeff Paulaus has been giving to the Hawkeye Harvest Food Bank for a few years now, and enjoys donating.

Last year, 72 million pounds of food were donated. Then their mail carrier picked up the food.

"Please help us in our fight to end hunger, as we celebrate our 26th anniversary year in America's great day of giving", they said in a news release. The goal is to make significant donations of food to organizations serving people in need.

"We take (the food) back to the post office and weigh it, usually", Mustaine said. Most needed items include: canned meats, meat-based soups, canned fruits, canned vegetables, peanut butter, rice and beans.

Making a donation is easy.
