The dragon float caught fire during the daily Festival of Fantasy Parade in Magic Kingdom.
The float, inspired by Walt Disney's 1959 animated classic Sleeping Beauty, depicts green-skinned dark fairy Maleficent in her purple-and-black dragon form.
Viewers sent in video to News Channel 8 showing the flames. Later, parts of its head piece appear to flake off and fall to the street.
Cast members shooed parade attendees away from the malfunctioning float, which continued to lift its head up and down as its head was engulfed in flames.
May 11, 2018It's all kicking off at the Magic Kingdom! According to reports, the fire was extinguished without incident and no one was injured. except for the float.
"Poor Maleficent the dragon set on fire during the Festival of Fantasy Parade yesterday", one Twitter user tweeted about the unfortunate accident.
Social media quickly filled up with pictures of the flaming dragon in the middle of Liberty Square. "Parade closed and the fire was promptly put out".
Disney officials say they are still trying to figure out what went wrong.
