The officer had worked for Baltimore County police for almost four years and had a bright future in law enforcement, Sheridan said.
The probable cause statement says the slain Baltimore County officer was Amy Caprio. All four suspects were wanted for burglaries in the area, according to officials. The name of the suspect and charges will be released after a court hearing.
They were in custody but had not yet been identified or formally charged as of late Tuesday afternoon.
A 16-year-old who was supposed to be on house arrest for auto theft was charged Tuesday with first-degree murder in the death of a Maryland police officer. At a court hearing Wednesday, Ward and Matthews waived their right to appear, and a judge ordered them held without bond at an adult lockup.
"An additional police presence will be on hand at Perry Hall area schools, where additional student support services will be available", school officials said. Reporters made calls and knocked on doors of several homes in Baltimore listed in court documents, but there was no response. According to the documents, the caller told the dispatcher that the officer had confronted the driver of the Jeep and was "on the ground".
Witnesses described seeing Caprio with her gun drawn and marching towards the Jeep on Monday afternoon. The officer was bleeding badly from significant injuries.
The killing of a Baltimore County police officer on May 21 kicked off a massive lockdown and search for the suspects after police were investigating a call for a suspicious vehicle.
"They are in for everything that occurs as a result of that burglary, including when their co-defendant is outside running over a police officer and killing her", Baltimore County State's Attorney Scott Shellenberger said. She had been with the department for four years. The police spokesman says, "The dark will not hamper our investigation".
Harris was inside the Jeep when Caprio, 29, arrived on the scene.
Allegedly he told a County detective he had been waiting in the driver's seat of the vehicle, while others were in the process of robbing a home.
The chief says a medical examiner ruled her death a homicide by trauma to the head and torso.
He confessed he partially opened the driver's door but then shut it and drove at the officer, the court documents state.
Kurek said that his son saw the officer draw her weapon on the suspect, ordering him out of the auto.
Prosecutor William Bickel says investigators have reviewed the slain officer's body camera footage.
Volunteer firefighter Logan Kurek says he ran outside and performed CPR on the officer until paramedics arrived, and says her injuries were consistent with being run over by a vehicle.
The Baltimore Sun reported Monday that one witness ran into his house and told his father: "Dad, Dad, a cop just got run over out front". "She was the kind of officer that was going to go up in this organization and lead". But the vehicle rammed the officer, the account said.
The officer's death stunned the quiet, residential neighborhood, said Baltimore County Councilman David Marks, who lives nearby. But by Monday evening, parents were allowed to come to the schools to pick up their youngsters.
