It's unclear when the new mode will return.
In a recent reddit post an Epic Games employee said 'We know you want to get back out to the Playground LTM.
Fortnite fans could see the mode re-enabled later today, but some new features in the past have been delayed for a number of days and the size of the Playground Mode could see a similar situation happen again. With the Playground mode giving players the ability to explore their own private island, with up to three friends and increased amounts of loot, it's understandable why users might be disappointed and hungry for more information. Epic explained why it was taken offline shortly after the limited time mode was taken off the game.
"We've been working on major matchmaking improvements over the last 24 hours, and we've also isolated Playground matchmaking to its own cluster so if it gets backed up, the worst that happens is longer Playground matchmaking times while the regular modes are unaffected".
