Interestingly, the celebrations of International Yoga Day (IDY) 2018 which were being conducted in Lucknow were interrupted by heavy rainfall, but the spirit of the people to perform Yoga could not be washed away as a large number of people joined in the celebrations all over the country.

The prime minister also took to social media to share the intricacies of various yoga asanas.

Mr. Modi said the way to lead a calm, creative and content life was yoga.

"Dehradun to Dublin, Shanghai to Chicago, Jakarta to Johannesburg, Himalayan highlands or sunburnt deserts, Yoga is enriching millions of lives all over the world", said the PM. Yoga is an ancient Indian tradition, but it doesn't belong to India alone.

Dehradun: On the 4th International Yoga day today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said yoga has become one of the biggest mass movements in the quest for good health and well-being as he led an estimated 50,000 enthusiasts to perform asanas at an institute in Dehradun.

Echoing a similar theme, Sri Lanka Consul General Abdul Wahid Abdul Salam said, "I have learned yoga five years back in Bangalore in India by staying in an ashram".

The popularity of Yoga is going to increase not only in India but also in China, he said. Modi said India should be proud to be the "guardians of the great practice".

The resolution achieved much support and was quickly passed, with June 21, 2015 slated as the inaugural International Yoga Day.

When asked about Kumar's absence at the event, both Ravi Shankar Prasad and Sushil Modi insisted that what was important was that people practised yoga regularly, wherever they chose, and that the presence or absence of a public figure must not be "politicized".
