When was the last time you went to go see a movie because the massive draw of Jared Leto's magnetism was too much to resist? This spinoff follows on the heels of the Margot Robbie-produced Birds of Prey feature that will star her Harley Quinn, and this film probably takes the spot that was rumored for a Joker/Harley film that kept being bantied about. Now, Variety is reporting a completely different Joker movie is in the works, starring Suicide Squad's Joker, Jared Leto, which presumably will take place entirely in continuity.

Leto's Joker film will become the second film on Joker to be under production by Warner Bros and DC Comics once an official announcement is made.

Leto unveiled his "clown prince of crime" in Suicide Squad, from which a Joker movie would spin-off, but it appears that executives at Warner Bros may have somewhat short memories.

As well as taking on the lead role, insiders also shared that the Oscar victor will act as an executive producer on the feature, which is now without a title.

Plot details are now unknown, but the studio's idea is to expand on the world created by "Suicide Squad" and tie into future installments of that property. Joaquin Phoenix is in talks to play the character in that film but no overlap between the two is expected. Leto, meanwhile, had little more than a cameo role as Joker in the poorly received Suicide Squad.

Those films will allow the studio to tell new stories based on the same characters but with no overlap with their current DC Extended Universe (DCEU) which includes Ben Affleck's Batman, Henry Cavill's Superman and Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman.

The internet has not reacted positively to the news of Leto getting his own movie.
