Liverpool set to complete £53m signing of Nabil Fekir from Lyon

Liverpool make major breakthrough in race to sign Nabil Fekir

Liverpool are reportedly the only club Nabil Fekir wants to join

Liverpool have allegedly reached a deal to sign Lyon playmaker Nabil Fekir.

"Talks between the clubs could conclude on Friday about a deal that may amount to 60m euros", reported the BBC.

But Lyon President Jean-Michel Aulas earlier said the deal would NOT go through until after the World Cup.

The Reds earmarked the attacker as a key signing for this summer, with Jurgen Klopp clearly intent on overhauling the midfield following deals for Fabinho and Naby Keita.

The France global is expected to undergo a medical today with the deal confirmed shortly afterwards, according to French newspaper L'Equipe.

"The deal is at a standstill, there is no way forward", Aulas had claimed. The case won't certainly be resolved during the World Cup and I do not think that there will be changes before (the WC). "We haven't set a price tag because we haven't discussed this [Fekir's transfer] yet".

Fekir has also drawn interest from Chelsea and Bayern Munich, but Liverpool have been aggressive in chasing his signature. Fekir is set to play for France on Saturday evening against the U.S., a game that will take place in Lyon's Stade des Lumieres.

The Reds are also considering whether to active the £12m release clause in Xherdan Shaqiri's contract as he is poised to leave Stoke City following their relegation to the Championship.
