The fire is located about a mile northwest of Basalt and was started Tuesday by two people firing tracers at a firing range near Christine Lake.Three houses have been destroyed.

Another fire on the Camp Pendleton Marine base prompted the evacuation of 750 homes. A situation summary from Cal Fire Saturday morning noted "extreme fire behavior with movement in multiple directions".
