Netflix’s new smart downloads will keep pace with your binging habits

Netflix makes it easier to manage downloaded shows on Android

Netflix is making it easier to watch shows on mobile

Buzzfeed reports that if you're watching a series, the feature automatically deletes watched episodes, then downloads the next one in line.

The streaming service launched the Download feature in 2016, making it possible for customers to watch shows and movies on the go.

Cameron Johnson, Director of Product Innovation, said that the new feature should make things far more convenient and quick for Netflix users. Not a great deal of friction, to be sure, but it was evidently enough that Netflix has developed a way to automate the process.

The feature won't be all that useful if you don't download a couple of episodes in advance.

Smart Downloads deletes Season 1, Episode 1, and automatically downloads Season 1, Episode 4.

Look for Smart Downloads to land on iOS devices later this year.

The following video shows you Smart Downloads at work, while this help page should provide more information on how to make it work on your mobile device. Before you Smart Download any of those, however, this otherwise knowledgeless writer recommends you dive into as many consecutive episodes as you possibly can of Bill Nye Saves the World. The company provides a brief guide on the smart downloads feature and how to use it here.

Or you can also do so via App Settings. Again, Smart Downloads will immediately delete downloaded episodes once users are already finished watching all of them. This also allows for downloading movies or TV shows on just one phone or tablet. For example, let's say you've downloaded the first three episodes of the first season of One Day at a Time.
