Klopp predicts 'magic things with formation' due to injury crisis

The Champions League finalists will kick off as second favourites behind Manchester City, and they're seen as the Citizens' main rivals for a reason, as they dished out one of only two City defeats of the Premier League season past year.

There isn't much to change when it comes to a squad that reached a Champions League final, but there is only one real question on Reds fans' lips and that is the centre-half dilemma.

Liverpool come into the season full of confidence, backed by the big spend of Jurgen Klopp throughout the window.

And in the build-up to this final friendly, the German has made clear how crucial skipper Henderson is to his side's ambitions this season. "Klavan, shouldn't be too serious, but if Tuesday is too early, I don't know yet", mused the German manager, hinting at a tactical reshuffle.

Croatia worldwide Dejan Lovren will rejoin the squad on Monday after an extended break following the World Cup but is a doubt for the next two games. I don't know. I'm happy about the game tonight and about what we did, the whole atmosphere.

"Hendo for sure was involved in the first goal with a press ball that he didn't win".

"He can still play as the eight or we could play some games with a double six, Fabinho could play the eight or whatever, that's all possible".

Roberto Firmino and Georginio Wijnaldum were on target in the first half for a strong-starting Reds XI that featured three summer signings - goalkeeper Alisson and midfielders Naby Keita and Fabinho, the latter of whom missed the chance to open the scoring from the penalty spot after Sadio Mane had been fouled in the box.

As it stands, the gaffer has only two fit central defenders with both Joel Matip and Ragnar Klavan sidelined with hip and hamstring problems respectively. Dejan Lovren reported back to training on Monday after finishing as a World Cup runner-up with Croatia, meaning Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez are the sole senior centre-backs available.
