Sitting on the steps of a trailer, Hanks absolutely looks the part.
On the heels of Mister Rogers' 51st anniversary, Sony Pictures has shared a picture of Tom Hanks as Mister Rogers. "It's really not. It's a movie that's largely focused on a reporter and (Mr. Rogers') relationship to his life, and how (the reporter's) whole world changes when coming in contact with Fred Rogers".
Directed by Marielle Heller (The Diary of a Teenage Girl), it's yet another project in which Hanks will play a real larger-than-life figure (after, most recently, Sully and Saving Mr. Banks).
The new Mister Rogers movie with Tom Hanks follows the Mister Rogers documentary Won't You Be My Neighbor from Oscar winning director Morgan Neville.
It's described as a heartwarming tale in which 'a cynical journalist begrudgingly accepts an assignment to write a profile piece on the beloved icon and finds his perspective on life transformed'. Chris Cooper (Live by Night) and This Is Us star Susan Kelechi Watson also appear in the much-anticipated film. That sounds a little cheesy, but it's a true story, and if anyone can make it believable, it's American treasure Tom Hanks.
He was the subject of the documentary Won't You Be My Neighbor? that premiered at this year's Sundance Film Festival this year.
The Mister Rogers biopic, which is slated to come out in October 2019, is inspired by the life of Fred Rogers, the inspirational and inimitable host of the children's TV show Mister Rogers' Neighborhood.
