Franco Mulakkal of Jalandhar diocese

Bishop Franco Mulakkal of Jalandhar diocese may be summoned to Kerala for interrogation said a senior police officer

She sought to know why Bishop Franco has not been arrested despite sufficient evidence against him. I have heard they are (nuns) protesting. That is why we thought of conducting this protest. It said bringing the real truth in the case was their "moral and divine" responsibility.

Across Kerala, anger is rising that law enforcement has yet to arrest the bishop, despite multiple accounts against him.

"Being a religious sister who is denied justice from the congregation authority and from the Church authority of Latin and Syro Malabar Churches, once again I implore your mercy on my situation". She said she had complained earlier because she lacked the courage to take on the clergy represented by the bishop.

Meanwhile, the Kerala High Court has asked the police for details on the steps taken as part of the investigation into the rape case. Bishop Mulakkal should be arrested.

She added that she herself went to see the nun, who was in a deep trauma, and alleged that the Punjab government and the Kerala police were not taking the matter seriously.

The nun, who admitted to be under enormous pressure in her battle against Bishop Franco Mulakkal, said that she was pained by the derogatory comments raised against her by sitting legislator PC George and will not meet the media.

With the protest by various Catholic Reform organisations in Kochi seeking justice for the nun entering the fourth day, the Kerala government said "justice will be done" amid reports that Cardinal Gracias, the President of Catholic Bishops Conference of India, will be raising the alleged rape of the nun with the Holy Pope. The victim had also alleged that she had received death threats from unknown people two months ago.

Terming the language used by the MLA as "deeply disturbing", NCW Chairperson Rekha Sharma said the Commission seriously condemns "such objectionable and derogatory statements made by a person who occupies responsible position in the society". As they failed to understand even the seriousness of these words, I could not tell them more than this. She also questioned the Church's stand on the matter. The Kottayam district police chief also directed the head of the SIT to record the survivor's statement.

Investigation officer DySP K. Subhash had submitted an affidavit before the High Court saying that the bishop had sexually abused her using force and his dominance as the bishop of the Jalandhar diocese.

For the unversed, the nun has accused Bishop Franco of raping and having unnatural sex with her multiple times between 2014 and 2016.
