The analyst also told The Post that he predicts that even the 2-year-old iPhone 7, which has seen its starting price cut to $449, will outsell the iPhone 8, thanks to its appeal in developing markets. The new range now comes with a fullscreen display and FaceID as standard - this was introduced by the trendsetting iPhone X previous year. The story that got us to this point is actually rather long, and it involves Apple slowing down phones with old, worn out batteries to prevent random crashing. iPhone users naturally didn't take kindly to that remote throttling, so Apple made a decision to extend an olive branch to them and cut the price of battery replacement for the entirety of 2018.
Predictably, folks on Twitter did not greet the news favorably. The iPhone XS (pronounced "ten ess") and XS Max are the updated version of last year's iPhone X. The XS has a 5.8-inch OLED display, while the XS Max has a 6.5-inch display.
Gareth does note though that the camera system also supports Smart HDR, which allows the iPhone XR to "really capture the high-end elements of a photo, fusing the light and dark elements well", and that the pictures he took were clear, sharp and colourful.
The two phones are nearly identical in design and features, with the XS being a refinement of last year's phone. Further, the rear wide-angle lens, True Tone flash, and True Depth camera on the iPhone XR are identical to those found on the iPhone XS, so the only difference from a photography point of view appears to be the lack of the second telephoto lens.
So why bother discontinuing the iPhone X, its most significant phone upgrade in years? You can't zoom in as much, though, and you have fewer portrait lighting effects.
Pre-orders for the iPhone Xs and iPhone Xs Max are going to be live tomorrow, but what we have is an early glimpse of how thee devices might perform when they are officially released by the company.
T3 will imminently be reviewing the iPhone XS in full, so be sure to check back in soon for our official verdict.
