"This is an exciting opportunity to get your hands on your auto sooner and without having to go pick it up". With the company now attempting to address Elon Musk's self-dubbed "delivery logistics hell", some owners of Tesla's electric cars stepped forward to offer help. With this, the company sends cars to the delivery centres but also delivers them directly to a customer's doorstep.
The all-electric Tesla Model 3 is priced from US$35,000 (RM144,931) in the United States, with a battery range of 354 km. According to the publication, Tesla will continue to offer delivery to some customers in and near Los Angeles throughout the week, though the publication did not say whether the delivery service will be offered elsewhere or whether it will be free.
Dozens of Tesla Model 3 sedans are reportedly being held in this Union Pacific freight depot in Salt Lake City.
The company has also announced a "door-to-door service" named Tesla Direct to help with Model 3 delivery during rush week. First, it can not make enough cars, and Musk needs to sleep on a factory floor to help speed up the assembly line.
In the August letter to shareholders, Musk said the automaker expects to become both sustainably profitable and cash-flow positive in the second half of 2018 for the first time in its 15-year history.
Some news outlets interpreted the description as an indication that Tesla is building its own trailers from the ground up.
Tesla delivered 18 449 Model 3s in the second quarter, according to the shareholder letter, and said in July that 11 166 were in transit to customers. With that being said, anything Tesla can do to help its customers get behind the wheel of the new Model 3 more quickly may help its bottom line, as Q3 draws to a close.
