In a video posted on Twitter Thursday, an officer asked Schumer if she wanted to be arrested, implying that she would be detained if she did not leave the premises.
Thousands have assembled today to protest Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh by marching on the Senate Office Building where his confirmation vote will take place. "Men who hurt women can no longer be placed in positions of power".
Schumer, model Emily Ratajkowski and others were at the Hart Senate Office Building in Washington D.C. after attending the #CancelKavanaugh protest outside the E. Barrett Prettyman Federal Courthouse, reports USA Today.
As the officer attempts to escort Schumer and another woman forward, the officer can be heard asking "You want to be arrested?".
Schumer and Ratajkowski were arrested. "And no matter how this goes, they can not keep us down", the comedian said. Ratajkowski said on social media that she was arrested.
"We need to stand up".
She goes on to say that Kavanaugh being confirmed as a justice on the Supreme court is a message to women in the United States that they do not matter. Show up for your sister and daughters and mothers.
The mass protests in D.C. are in reaction to the FBI concluding its investigation, launched after Dr. Christine Blasey Ford testified last week about her sexual misconduct allegation against Kavanaugh.
Activists from across the US were encouraged to let their voices be heard on Thursday, and thousands showed up to urge the nation's top politicians not to let Kavanaugh take a seat among the country's top judges.
