Manchester United will take belief into Juventus game, says Chris Smalling

Manchester United star Ander Herrera has admitted the players sometimes need to feel as though everything is lost before reacting.

But despite that miss by the England striker, whose first Premier League goal since September later redeemed him, Mourinho felt United delivered a much improved performance after the interval.

"I was happy with bringing Ander to the game because normally the intention, when you look for a better result than you have, is to play attacking players or in theory to make attacking changes", he said.

Bournemouth went close to taking the lead at the beginning of the second half, but David Brooks' impudent flick from close range was well saved by De Gea, who managed to grasp the ball at the second attempt.

"He's a player of balance, he's not an incredible creator, not an incredible scorer, he has a little bit of everything but I think he's a player of balance, knowledge, his tactical knowledge is big, he understands what I want, what the team needs".

"No matter how bad that first half was, that second half we all believed we can go and win".

"Because the approach was much more defensive and with a much more defensive approach you can hide better your weaknesses", said Mourinho. Mourinho has come in for a whole heap of criticism this season but they have now picked up ten points from their last 12 available, only Ross Barkley's last-gasp equaliser prevented them from making it a full complement.

"Where Lindelof, Smalling and Ashley Young have gone, I don't know".

Manchester United were far from good in the opening half hour. "We created lots of chances and deserved to score before the 92nd minute".

Young's free-kick cannoned off the post and the United man's goal-bound effort was sensationally blocked on the line by the chest of Nathan Ake. My coaches said it was the best warm-up of the season. It happened again against a good team but we were prepared for everything.

'A lot of other teams will gain and lose points in that way'. With Ryan Fraser and Callum Wilson being incredibly risky on the attack this season, Bournemouth has the most goals scored so far this year outside of the Top 4.

The Spaniard, 29, replaced Fred in the 56th minute and gave his team greater stability from midfield, also going close to scoring as they pursued a winning goal.
