An Internet outage is affecting wireless 911 calls in Mass.

What's going on: Customers across the nation said they experienced internet power outages from CenturyLink, according to Newsweek.

Residential customers have also tweeted some harsh words, mostly about the lack of updates and customer service from CenturyLink. The company said the mysterious "network element" issue impacted service at 15 of its data centers, across both Europe and North America.

Jessica Rosenworcel, a member of the Federal Communications Commission, said via Twitter that this was a "nationwide outage" and her agency needed to investigate.

In Idaho, the internet problems caused the temporary shutdown of phone services at the Idaho Department of Correction and the state's Department of Education, The Idaho Statesman reported.

Local police and county sheriff's departments have been answering distressed users on social media for the past few hours, giving out direct phone numbers to their local dispatchers.

Earlier this morning reports of CenturyLink service disruptions were made.

There were reports of ATM machines not working in Idaho and Montana. A King County dispatch spokesperson says that it has been an intermittent issue for them throughout the day, but they started having bigger problems with incoming calls later Thursday evening.
