Not all the people who came for the viewing in a heavily Democratic city and suburbs were Bush supporters. "I wasn't the biggest fan of his presidency, but all in all he was a good honest guy doing a really hard job as best he could". Service dogs are trained to do that.

Rain fell down on the Bush family at the end of their patriarch's funeral in Houston on Thursday, the final day of events to commemorate the 41st president.

Former first lady Laura Bush said her tour of the White House Christmas decorations Tuesday made for a "sweet visit" during a somber week. Bush's Instagram account put it.

George P. Bush, son of former Florida Governor Jeb Bush and one of the former president's 17 grandchildren, remembered fly fishing and sharing ice cream with the man he called "Gampy".

Earlier on Thursday, an 80-minute funeral of George H.W. Bush was held at St. Martin's Episcopal Church in Houston, reflecting his patriotism, faith and humor. Their twin daughters, Jenna and Barbara, followed.

Trump and first lady Melania Trump arrived by motorcade at Blair House on Tuesday.

At 10 a.m. Wednesday, his casket will be taken to the National Cathedral for a funeral.

Trump and his wife joined mourners at the Capitol Rotunda Monday night. James A. Baker III, Bush's chief political compatriot and friend of more than 60 years, said during a eulogy: "He possessed the classic virtues of our civilization and of his faith, the same virtues that express what is really best about our country". "My opinion of him went up seeing how he conducted himself as a statesman afterward".

Bush was president from 1989 to 1993, navigating the collapse of the Soviet Union and expelling former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein's forces from oil-rich Kuwait. "He seemed like a honest and decent man and you couldn't argue with his qualifications".

Around the clock in the Rotunda over two days, thousands - many who had lined up in near-freezing temperatures for hours to enter the Capitol - paid their final respects to Bush, whose flag-draped coffin rested on the wooden catafalque built in 1865 for the casket of assassinated President Abraham Lincoln.

Five U.S. presidents assembled at the Washington National Cathedral for Wednesday's state funeral for George H.W. Bush, who died last Friday in Texas at the age of 94.

Mr Bush enrolled at Yale University after military service, becoming a scholar-athlete and captaining the baseball team to two College World Series before graduating Phi Beta Kappa after just two-and-a-half years. The couple was married for 73 years, longer than any other US presidential couple. And as he was steadied, Dole raised his left arm and saluted.

Bush's body was later loaded onto a special train fitted with clear sides so people could catch a glimpse of the casket as it rumbled by.
