Frenkie De Jong set for PSG switch with summer move 'almost certain'

De Jong made the move to Ajax from Willem II in 2016, where he won the Jupiter League Talent of the Season in 2016-17 for the club's reserve team Jong Ajax.

Barcelona & Man City face missing out on longstanding target Frenkie de Jong to European rivals Paris Saint-Germain if the latest gossip from the player's native Netherlands is to be believed, with PSG reportedly paying Ajax a visit this week and making their interest clear.

Should City fail to land De Jong next summer, he would be another high-profile player that slipped through their grasp following on from Alexis Sanchez's move to Manchester United and Jorginho's decision to join Chelsea.

It still seems that de Jong himself would actually be keen on joining either Barça or Man City, telling The Guardian just this week how much he admires the style of play.

Ajax star Frenkie De Jong seemingly has the pick of Europe's top clubs and he's been linked with majority in recent months.

The club's business director Marc Overmars has confirmed that the two sides are in talks, but said nothing has yet been sealed and other clubs are also after the youngster.

"Maybe I'll stay for another year, maybe I'll leave, but I am not sure".

On praise for him from PSG forward Kylian Mbappe, he said: "It makes me happy to hear what Mbappe said about me".

Manchester City, Bayern Munich and Barcelona are also said to be in the race to sign De Jong next summer.

"I like to watch the great players, the ones who are technically good and understand the game". The Paris club will be conscious of the fact they could lose Rabiot to Barcelona, and would see De Jong as a fitting replacement. "Get the ball back quickly, then play possession with so many combinations. After that, he will make his own choice".
