Michael Cohen, President Donald Trump's former lawyer, made a surprise appearance before a federal judge in NY on Thursday and pleaded guilty to lying to Congress to cover up that he was negotiating a real estate deal in Moscow on Trump's behalf during the heat of his campaign for the Republican presidential nomination.

In addition to his cooperation with Mueller, Cohen has also assisted in the NY state attorney general's investigation into the Trump Foundation, his lawyers revealed Friday, and has provided documents to the state attorney general in a separate, unidentified probe, too.

That's what prosecutors told a federal judge Friday in the case of Paul Manafort. The court papers say that the Russian assistant took notes on this and said that she would follow up.

Friday's hearing in Manafort's case could have been filled with fireworks.

If Jackson agrees that he broke his deal, Manafort's likely sentence in the DC case could be between 17 and nearly 22 years in prison, according to his plea agreement.

His lawyers said Papadopoulos, now serving a 14-day prison sentence, "lied to save his professional aspirations and preserve a perhaps misguided loyalty to his master".

Manafort stood accused of hiding about $16 million United States in income from the Internal Revenue Service between 2010 and 2014 by allegedly disguising the money he earned advising pro-Russian politicians in Ukraine as loans and hiding it in foreign banks.

"It has been our position from the outset that much of what has been asked raised serious constitutional issues and was beyond the scope of a legitimate inquiry", Giuliani said in a statement, according to NBC News. Jurors deadlocked on those Virginia counts and convicted Manafort on eight others.

Manafort's trial there included testimony from his longtime aide Rick Gates, who has co-operated with prosecutors after pleading guilty to lying to the Federal Bureau of Investigation. They have responded to their victory in the midterm elections, including the retaking of the House with a gain of 40 seats-a pale reflection of the scale of popular anger and opposition to Trump-by reelecting all of the geriatric right-wingers who have led the House Democratic caucus for more than a decade and pledging to cooperate with Trump in pushing through his reactionary domestic agenda. Cohen acknowledge considering traveling to Moscow to discuss the project.

Michael Cohen, former personal attorney to President Donald Trump, exits federal court, November 29, 2018 in New York City. According to Cohen's testimony in 2017 and his plea agreement, negotiations with Rozov's group stalled, and the two Trump associates turned to aides to Russian President Vladimir Putin to move the project forward. At the precise very same time, he is minimizing the significance of the guilty allure of his previous lawful agent, Michael Cohen, for existing to Congress. The money, the newspaper reported, came from the pro-Russian party of Viktor Yanukovych, the one-time Ukraine president.

Trump lashed out at Cohen after the plea deal was announced, calling him "a weak person" and a liar. There's an ongoing debate, however, about whether a president can be prosecuted for such transgressions while in office.

Quite likely, Manafort instructed his attorneys to feed information to Trump to increase his odds of receiving a pardon from Trump, which, for the record, the president is refusing to "take off the table".

When asked if he had ruled out a potential pardon for Manafort, Trump has demurred.

It was a potentially lucrative deal for Trump's company, handing it $4 million in upfront fees plus possibly millions more from a cut on everything from food and banquet fees to spa charges.

Mueller's get-tough approach suggests that he thinks Manafort is still withholding critical information on the relationship between the Trump campaign and Russian Federation.

Papadopoulos began reluctantly serving a short prison sentence this week. Cohen said he kept Trump, named as "Individual 1" in the plea, updated about the deal's progress, and also "briefed family members of Individual 1 within the company about the project".

Trump has tried to downplay his relationship to Manafort, citing his relatively short time on the campaign. Mueller along with UNITED STATE understanding companies have really declared Russian Federation was the source of the item provided to WikiLeaks.

Trump has repeatedly denied colluding with Russian Federation, although there is no federal crime called collusion. And would that mean they could be seen as conspiring with the Russians?

He told the court that Trump ordered him to make the payments, an allegation Trump denies.

"That determination has not been made", special counsel prosecutor Andrew Weissman said, leaving the matter of a second trial open for consideration.
