The Lakers announced the MRI results on their star forward confirmed that he has a left groin strain.
While the Los Angeles Lakers notched an impressive win over the two-time defending champion Golden State Warriors on Christmas Day, it came at a significant cost as both LeBron James and Rajon Rondo (sprained right ring finger) were injured.
The Lakers need to adjust their game plan as superstar LeBron James sits out due to a strained groin.
James did not travel with the team to Sacramento, deciding to return to Los Angeles to rest. The Lakers said Rondo's status will be updated Friday when they face the LA Clippers. Cameras showed James appearing to tell Lakers trainer Marco Nuñez that he felt a "pop".
Los Angeles led 104-89 with 6:44 remaining following a dunk by Tyson Chandler before Sacramento surged back.
James does not have a serious groin injury, but there is a healing process for him to navigate.
"It's one of those things we want to make sure he's healthy before we get him back out there", Walton said Thursday.
The Lakers are 20-14 and holding on to fourth place in the Western Conference. And he's likely to miss even more action in the coming weeks.
The 33-year-old is averaging 27.3 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 7.1 assists per game in 34 games for the Lakers this season, his first season in Los Angeles.
"Those type of things are what cost us the game, not not having him at the end or that shot that Bogdanovic hit", Walton said.
