He will lie in state at the Capitol through Wednesday.
The casket will be accompanied to Joint Base Andrews, outside Washington, by the 43rd president, Bush's son George W Bush; his wife, Laura; his brother Neil Bush and his family.
Bush's passing has led to an outpouring of remembrances for the humble and gentlemanly statesman, whose life and service was seen to stand in direct contrast to the vitriol and partisanship that has enveloped elected politics in recent years.
"It's pretty obvious as people look back, and as people are recollecting the Bush presidency, it looks a heck of a lot better than it did at the end of it", he said.
Bush, who was president from 1989 to 1993, will lie in state in the U.S. Capitol rotunda for a ceremony and public visitation from Monday through Wednesday.
George Herbert Walker Bush, the 41st President of the United States, died on November 30, and President Donald Trump has declared Wednesday, Dec. 5, a National Day of Mourning.
Many spoke of Bush's role in a bygone era of bipartisan civility in U.S. politics, a sharp contrast to today's bitter divisions in the age of President Donald Trump, a fellow Republican.
He failed to win a second term after breaking a no-new-taxes pledge. The president will designate Wednesday, December 5th as a National Day Of Mourning.
Bush's casket is set to arrive in Washington on Monday afternoon aboard the USA military airplane that's more commonly recognized as Air Force One. "It was truly an honor to have provided service dog Sully to be by the President's side for the past several months". There, he will help wounded veterans and service members during their recovery.
The Instagram account for Bush's service dog, Sully, posted a touching photo of the dog in front of Bush's casket with the caption "Mission complete" following the 41st president's death at 94 on Friday.
Sully is named after former airline pilot Chesley B.
Following the week of services, Bush will be laid to rest on his presidential library grounds at Texas A&M University, where his wife and Robin, his daughter who died of leukemia in 1953, are buried.
