Manchester City went to within four points of Liverpool on Thursday after beating their title rivals 2-1 at the Etihad.
Defending champions, City find themselves four points behind Jurgen Klopp's in-form Reds after 21 games of the 2018/2019 season.
"It doesn't change anything".
"It would have been nice to be 10 points clear of them and nine points above Tottenham but we wouldn't have won it (the title)". We had two little balls which we lost. They're obviously delighted (seeing) their reaction at the end but they've not won it either. "That could have been a defeat for us right back in October but it wasn't". They've closed the gap but it is all about how we react. I don't know how far we are going to be because maybe the Carabao Cup is not good for our recovery but it is what it is. Multiply that by the Liverpool experience Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea, and now Manchester City experiences, all with fans like me who became attracted and attached to the respective EPL clubs across all the subsequent eras, and there is a reason why nearly all the top players in the world have either played in the EPL or will do so in the future.
"It is not easy to stay there at the top because the pressure is so high".
After after the break, Leroy Sane's shot cannoned off the other post of the same goal and went in for the victor.
"I am proud of them, but not just today", he said. In these games, important players make the difference'.
"Liverpool deserve applause because most teams can not force Man City into a situation where they have to defend".
"We want to become a top, top club".
"Liverpool's players have a bigger desire to win the title and that will help them win the league".
To have a four-point lead with 17 games remaining is more than satisfying.
City are next in Premier League action when they host Wolves on January 14.
"We knew it was going to be a very tough season and there will be ups and downs".
"Vincent Kompany should've been sent off really, he's out of control and he's got to go there." said Merson.
