Fifty-two flu-related deaths have been reported across California since September 30, according to the latest update from public health officials. Moreover, the DG health has also announced to run a separate OPD for influenza cases at Doon hospital so that the patients can be treated on priority basis.
The B.C. Centre for Disease Control says the peak flu season has likely passed, but activity remains high for this time of year. "The vaccine is inactivated, which means that it does not contain the live influenza virus and therefore can not cause the flu".
The BC CDC says since week 40 of 2018, starting October 1, almost all cases of positive tests were influenza A, with more than 90 per cent of those being the H1N1 strain.
The majority of influenza viruses characterized antigenically and genetically are similar to the cell-grown reference viruses representing the 2018-2019 Northern Hemisphere influenza vaccine viruses.
Nine states experienced high ILI activity; New York City and 13 states experienced moderate ILI activity; 10 states experienced low ILI activity; and the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and 18 states experienced minimal ILI activity.
The flu is now considered widespread in the state.
