The group sat inside a stolen Chevrolet pickup when they spotted musician Kyle Yorlets outside his home in Nashville.
Police say the 5 children were in a pickup truck in an alley behind Kyle's home when they saw him and allegedly chose to steal his auto. Police say they think Yorlets was shot when he refused. He was rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he died.
Police said the victim had been a random target.
"The entire Nashville community, every neighborhood in this city should be concerned about what happened Thursday and the events of Thursday night".
Five juveniles have been charged with criminal homicide for Thursday's fatal shooting of a local musician outside his home in Nashville, state of Tennessee, authorities said Friday. The next hearing will be held on February 21.
A memorial service for Kyle was scheduled for Monday, Feburary 11th at 3:30 p.m.in the Belmont University Chapel.

The suspects range in age from 12-16, both boys and girls. The oldest suspect is 16 while the youngest is 12.
Police later found the pickup truck abandoned in the 1600 block of Timberland Drive in the Hermitage Precinct. It was stolen Wednesday in Oak Grove, Kentucky.
Police arrested them Friday morning with two loaded, stolen weapons.
The teens used a second stolen vehicle to get to the Walmart, and that SUV was recovered as well, according to investigators. Witnesses said three minors bailed out of the truck and traveled to a nearby Walmart store, where they were later taken into custody along with two other suspects.
"We will never forget Kyle, and though he is gone too soon, his legacy is here to stay", they said.
