Officials say that Cedric Joseph Marks escaped from a private prisoner transport. The two were last seen alive on January 4 before their bodies were found in Clearview, Okla., on January 15.
The post from the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office is the first time law enforcement had tied him directly to the crime.
Marks has not been named as a suspect in the disappearance of Scott and Swearingin.
The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office's initial tweet about the escape said Crews was facing three "pending murder charges, " but it didn't immediately respond to requests for further information about those charges. The search is focusing near a McDonald's at North Loop 336 and North Frazer.
Marks was last seen in an orange jumpsuit but had apparently been discarding clothes as he fled; authorities found his shirt after he got away.

With Hill County, the company has had a contract with the department for 60 days. "I believe he is a psychopath", Scott said in a document filed to the Bell County, Texas, court, KCEN reported.
Marks had been in Kent County, Mich., jail for allegedly breaking into the home of ex-girlfriend Jenna Scott on August 21.
Marks was recaptured by law enforcement Sunday afternoon.
Texas Prisoner Transport Services has contracts with several Central Texas departments, including Bell County, McLennan County and Hill County. She remains in the Bell County Jail with bond set at $500,000.
She is accused of allowing Marks and Maxwell to stay in her home between January 5 and January 9.
An ex-girlfriend of Marks, Amanda Pease, has been missing since 2009 in Bloomington, Minnesota. She is missing from Bloomington, Minn., and has not been heard from since.
Additional details were not immediately available. The Houston Chronicle reported one victim is Marks' former girlfriend, who met him on Tinder and had a restraining order against him. The circumtances leading up to the escape are now under investigation, she told reporters.
