Social media users in the UAE and other parts of the world were left frustrated on Wednesday evening when Facebook and Instagram went down. "We're working to resolve the issue as soon as possible", Facebook tweeted.

Independent status monitor Down Detector has registered over 490 reports from users at one time insisting the WhatsApp rival was not working properly.

Facebook seems to be down in various forms particularly for those who are trying to log in on desktop.

According to downdetector.com, Facebook is said to be down from around 9.30 pm in India.

Other Facebook services, such as Messenger, were also experiencing problems.

It later added: "We're focused on working to resolve the issue as soon as possible, but can confirm that the issue is not related to a DDoS attack".
